The Chicken Coop
Clarkesville, GA
I have been working with clay now for several years. I create most of my pottery using hand-building techniques. The creative process has fascinated me from childhood and I have painted, done woodworking, sewing, tile painting, flower arranging and gardening.
All these activities have influenced my current interest in ceramics.
Now that my three sons are grown and married, it is my great pleasure to enjoy time with my husband and friends and to pursue art at my own pace. I have lived many places, but I absolutely love living in Clarkesville with my husband, Jim and a big sweet cat named Bentley. We live just outside town in a country setting with farm fields nearby and abundant wildlife. I have a small studio with a red tin roof. I do a lot of gardening in the summer and the woodlands and surrounding fields influence my ceramics. My vases and trays are embellished with nature designs that reflect the serene habitat of Northeast Georgia. I make a lot of folksy fat chickens and have grown so fond of them that I am starting to give them names. I feel fortunate to live in Northeast Georgia which has a large, active and supportive art community making it a very attractive area for artists.
