Now a painter, Libby Mathews has studied modern dance and printmaking.
This combination of interests gives her work its rhythm and visual strength.

A professional studio and en plein air artist, Mathews makes her home in the North Georgia Mountains where she has been both a resident Fellow and
Instructor at the Hambidge Center for the Arts.
.
Traveling to learn, instruct, and paint on location, Mathews infuses
her paintings with her active spirit, knowledge and awareness of the
intentions in her mind in the face of nature. Canvases depicting and
interpreting sunlit scenes from Tuscany, Coastal Georgia, the West,
the Appalachians and her little mountain lake cabin give testament to her love of the landscape and nature. Her landscapes with their reflections,
illuminations and shadows, show the spirit of a place.

Senator Johnny Isaakson, the Chattooga Conservancy, Sun Trust Bank, and the St. Anton Foundation, among many others, have collected Mathews' work. She is represented by Timpson Creek Gallery in Clayton, GA, and Summit One Gallery in Highlands, North Carolina.
