"It doesn't matter so much what you look at, it's what you see"
Henry David Thoreau, 1817-1862.
Her BFA from Ringling School of Art and Design was the foundation Jessie needed, when in her late 40's, she escaped a big city career in interior
design, moved to the Georgia mountains and started painting the great outdoors. Doing an occasional rendering at work, she knew she had
something, yet not the luxury of time to develop it.
Jessie's best days are now spent painting en plein aire, where that primordial sense of God's power and creativity is ever present and always her inspiration. "Painting from real life one learns color as it truly is.
Color temperature, atmospheric qualities; painters use these to convey the
mood of a place caught in time. For me it's a long laborious process to find these in a studio. I get it faster, better, more standing out in it."
Promoting the beauty and benefits of our undeveloped natural land is
always a subtle message in Jessie's painting. Her Appalachian Trail LE
lithographs, printed from watercolors started on backpacking trips are
almost sold out. She was Guest Artist this January at Amicalola Falls
Lodge, where her wildlife prints are available. Jessie is published on the cover and inside Experience Art, a coffee table book of selected north Georgia artists published by GHCA. See more original acrylic, oil,
