Florida native Lynne Mitchell knew by the age of eleven that she would be an artist. Growing up in Fort Myers, she enjoyed an early exposure to the arts thanks to her mother. “Mom was always driving us up to the Asolo Theater or the Ringling Museum whenever she had the chance.” The Ringling School of Art and Design was Lynne’s stepping stone to receiving her BFA in painting and sculpture from Florida State University in 1985.
New York City was the site of her first exhibit. For nine years in the Big Apple, she parlayed her visual talents into creative jobs as a prop stylist, visual merchandiser, and magazine illustrator. When a move to Atlanta, Georgia took her closer to her southern roots, she developed a passion for painting plein-air (outdoors). Her next show in Atlanta was inspired by the rivers and mountains of North Georgia.
While nurturing her love of painting has been a constant for Lynne, she has made a living from another creative source: the world of the professional stylist, a behind the scenes master who designs and creates sets, props, and scenery for television shows as well as commercial film and photography. Lynne has picked up Emmy and Telly Awards for her work in this field.
Currently Lynne spends most of the year in the mountains of North Georgia working as a painter and illustrator. She uses oil for most of her landscapes and watercolor or gouche in her illustrations.
