I live with my husband and daughter in northern Georgia. I've been an avid knitter for over 20 years and have been spinning and dyeing for about 8 years. More recently I have taken up sewing and have learned to make hand-embroidered buttons and ribbon flowers. I bring these crafts together to design and create girls’ dresses, hopscotch bags, shoulder bags, organic cotton washcloths, and other one-of-a-kind works of functional textile art.

My work embodies value in its materials and in its construction. I make every effort to use high-quality, unusual, and ethically produced fabrics and yarns. I frequently use locally produced fiber and “recycled” vintage fabrics. Second, my pieces are designed and produced one at a time, by hand, using varied materials and embellishments. Designs develop in an organic fashion, and many pieces are partly unmade before they are remade and put up for sale: this is far from an assembly line process! Instead, each piece is a truly unique labor of love.

Recycle your old dress here! Another unique option I offer is custom work: clothing hand-made to order. A key benefit of custom work is the opportunity to incorporate a client’s treasured materials. I have even spun and knitted dog hair to immortalize a favorite pet’s soft fur! Currently I am working on a line of girls’ dresses which feature a knitted bodice sewn to a fabric skirt. I encourage mothers, aunts, and grandmothers to search their closets for dresses they no longer wear. I will knit the bodice and use the deconstructed dress for the skirt. In this way a very personal heirloom piece can be created.

I welcome inquiries about custom work and sell finished pieces on the internet at www.1spinsterknits.etsy.com
