I started painting ceramics at the age of 13. For the next 30 years my mother and I taught ceramics the old fashioned way, using underglazes, glazes, china paints, lusters and other overglazes. We took lessons from many well known, talented artists from California, which was the hub of the ceramic industry at that time.

Over the years I have kept my hands in lots of crafts, including flower arranging, tole painting, counted cross stitch and machine embroidery, macramé, etc.

When we moved to Georgia in July of 2004, I noticed an ad to learn oil painting. I immediately signed up and have jumped in with both feet ever since. I enjoy trying my own compositions as I continue to learn. I utilize my experience in ceramics by using brush stroke techniques learned many years ago. I continue to strive to improve my skills when painting flowers (my first choice), landscapes and hope to get into adding some realistic animals.

I am a member of the Currahee Artists' Guild in Toccoa, GA and the Tugalo Arts Guild in Lavonia, GA.

I still have an online business originally set up for machine embroidery, but with the foresight that I might get into something else, I named it PatMar Creations, where I will be uploading some of my paintings available for sale.
