ANTHONY ABREU is a remarkable artist. He not only impresses you with his talent, but you can also see into his heart as you study and admire the details in every piece he has laid his brush to.
Anthony focuses on the details that he imagines within the topic he has decided on by becoming a part of the story he wants to tell. As he would tell you, I actually live in the painting before I ever pick up the brush. For days, weeks, or sometimes longer, I study my sketches and visualize being there with them. I can hear the sounds, feel their thoughts, and imagine their spirit. I want to imagine being a part of the story I try to convey. A morning mist floating above the ground with a quiet air surrounding you; in the distance the soft hoot of an owl, and the echo of a barking dog that was my direction for Mountain Cabin.
When I painted Running Fire, my imagination was directing a mighty stead galloping through a field the turbulent air is filled with motion, and the ground beneath your feet rumbled as the stead got closer and closer. It then took me to seeing this mighty animal staring into my eyes, thus Spirit Warrior was born.
Anthony has been painting since he was six years old and won his first competition at age sixteen - First Place at the annual Florida State Fair Art Exhibition.
The only way I can portray expression in my work is to live the story it is telling. I hope they reach your heart, and speak to you.
