“I paint ordinary things in unexpected ways” is the way Cathy describes her art. She looks for subjects that excite her imagination and ones that will also give the viewer something to enjoy. She depicts ordinary items in a manner that makes the viewer see them in a different way and perhaps realize a deeper meaning. "I believe it is my responsibility as an artist to show others objects around them they would otherwise never notice." Strong compositions and bold color harmonies help illustrate these representational works.

Watercolor is her primary medium but she also works in oils and acrylics. "I believe individual interpretation is an essential element in a good painting and it doesn't matter if it is in oil or watercolor." Obviously many judges agree. Cathy has won more than 75 awards in prominent national and international competitions. And her works are in many private and corporate collections around the world.

She travels extensively and paints wherever she lands so many of her works reflect international themes. Cathy teaches classes and conducts workshops in her studios as well as other locations. Her credentials include Member of Excellence at the Atlanta Artists Center, signature member of the San Diego Watercolor Society and the Georgia Watercolor Society where she is a past President. She studied art at Washington University in St Louis, the University of Louisville and the Atlanta College of Art and she holds a BA degree. She also studied advance courses at the Athenaeum in San Diego as well as continuing her training by attending many workshops with prominent artists around the country. She is a member of The Blackberry Creek Artists, a group of 10 north Georgia artists who exhibit their work in shows throughout Georgia.

Her series “Environmental Reverberations” is a solo traveling exhibit that has been shown during 2007 throughout the state of Georgia including the State of Georgia Botanical Gardens in Athens GA. Other work is at The Bowen Center For the Arts in Dawsonville GA, the Grandview Gallery in Buckhead GA, at studio "Z" in Atlanta by appointment and in the many shows of the Blackberry Creek Artists and on her web site at www.cathyehrler.com
