Wendy Conrad was born in North Miami and raised in the suburbs of Fort Lauderdale. Living in the North Georgia Mountains since 2002, Conrad is a self-taught painter. She has been painting regularly since January 2007 and has been taking photographs since 1988.
Conrad’s paintings have been mostly acrylic on canvas, however recently she has been experimenting with wood and recycled materials to create mixed media pieces. Bold colors and broad strokes are characteristic of her painting style. “I am certainly in the spring of my artistic journey. I love trying new materials, techniques, and subject matter. I get bored easily! “
Her photography exhibits unique and graphic composition. Her artwork has been exhibited locally and sold nationwide.
On Photography:
“For me, photography is more than just composing a great image. It’s about freezing a moment in time forever. Every time someone looks at a photograph they will know this moment will never exist as it did in the photo ever again. You can revisit the moment again and again. For me, photography is a form of time travel.”
On Painting:
“I am constantly inspired by the world around me. When I see something that inspires a painting, it haunts me until I can get the out of my head and into physical form. Sometimes the ideas work, sometimes they don’t. I agree with the notion that creating art is similar to giving birth.”
