I am a recent graduate of Georgia State University where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Fibers. After many years at home raising my two sons, I “borrowed” some time and completed my studies. During the years at home with my children, I began exploring art through the use of textiles and the many processes it allows.
My art reflects my attempt to find, embrace, create, and admire beauty. Like most people, I am heavily influenced by my past, by the things that have surrounded me, by the people that have been with me, by the places that I have seen. My current works are abstract associations of color and shape with themes of nature and my urban environment. My art takes the noise from the environment and shows the beauty that exists nearby. It is an expression of my fascination with the physical earth.
I use disperse dyes painted onto paper which I then transfer onto fabric through a process called sublimation. I often incorporate other elements into the individual artworks, from stitching to mixed media to loom weavings which I create on a 8-harness floor loom.
