Sam Brashear
Sautee, GA
Growing up in rural Florida, Sam loved the outdoors. As a teen he sent off for a course in taxidermy to see if he could prepare a wild crow he shot with a BB gun. Then years later while teaching at a Community College he met Master woodcarver Daniel DeMendoza. Through a three and a half year apprenticeship he practiced the art of creating miniature wildlife wood sculptures. His subjects included fish, birds, and animals in dioramas, plaques, and realistic settings. Upon moving to the N.E. GA mountains he discovered a group of artists at both the Georgia Heritage Center for the Arts, and Foothills Guild of Arts and Crafts. His studio at GHCA is open on Fridays from 10 - 5.
