I’ve made my living as a gourd and clay artist for 32 years and am thankful to say that I’m still learning about the creative process. If anything, I’m now more inspired by and thankful for the Creative Force than ever before.
As co-owner of The Gourd Place with my life partner, Janice Lymburner, I’ve been challenged over the years to continue coming up with new ways to work with gourds. My most dramatic breakthrough in recent years has been the development of Gourd Impressions pottery, which utilizes gourds as the primary molds for dozens of forms, including vases, serving bowls and platters, and a full line of tableware. The veins and textures on the insides of gourds are seen on the outsides of the pots.
Much of my creative energy right now is going into developing a line of natural jewelry using plant materials to make beads and leaf impressions as focal points.
