Jennie Inglis
Cleveland, GA
A Georgia native, Jennie Inglis has been involved in multiple art forms for most of her life. Currently living with her wood-working husband in Cleveland, GA, Jennie makes her way on many fronts.
Jennie is a weaver of rag fabrics. Using a 26” 4-harness Baby Wolfe, she produces colorful fabrics shaped into pieces that combine aesthetics with function. Examples of her work include placemats, bags, pillows, ponchos, vests and lots of mats and runners of various sizes and colors. Jennie served as a demonstrating weaver for GHCA from 2006 – 2007.
Jennie is a dancer of many dances. Through GHCA she teaches introductory classes in flatfoot and buck dancing. These are the styles of percussive step dancing from which modern-day team clogging arose. The classes focus on learning to move the feet and body in time to the music and often feature live music.
Jennie is a musician. She provides strong rhythm and bass support for two northeast Georgia string bands. One band focuses on old timey music. The other plays New England contra style music. The bands have played for the Art’s Tour and for events at the GHCA gallery.
Jennie is a writer and an actress. As a columnist for 6 years with The Northeast Georgian, she developed the knack of saying what she thinks clearly and creatively. Currently she reads aloud to primary school students in the Cleveland area through a program sponsored by the Screen Actor’s Guild Association.
